Strategy for Development

Gujarat Government’s objective and strategy of state’s development has been more inclusive growth through: Improvement of the Human Development Index, Investment in Human Capital, Skill Development and Employment, Empowerment through Education, Comprehensive Strategy for better Health, Rural infrastructure, Focus on the unorganised sector and Doubling real income in less then 7 years.

Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana

The Chief Minister, in his ten point programme, Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojna has assured commitment of Rs.15,000 Crore with aim of doubling income of Scheduled Tribe households and development of infrastructure and lifestyle of an individual by 2010.

Shaheri Garib Yojana

The State Government has introduced Shaheri Garib Samruddhi Yojana to create basic amenities like employment, health, nutrition, education, roads and electricity for those deprived of such facilities by making comprehensive planning for five years for overall development of the urban areas. With a view to achieve objective of ‘Swarnim Gujarat’ an amount of Rs.1105 crore is provided for the year 2009-10.  Schemes are:

  • Garib Samruddhi Yojana
  • Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana

Sagarkhedu Yojana

The 12 point programme proposes a time-bound action plan for improving wage and self-employment, educational facilities, health infrastructure, drinking water, housing, salinity ingress, electrification and water conservation in 38 talukas in 13 districts along the 1600 km coastline of Gujarat with a population of about 60 lakh.

Health

The major thrust is being given to health initiatives for children, mothers. Gujarat State has launched various schemes in order to reduce Maternal and Infant Mortality and to stabilise population and adverse Sex Ratio. The other schemes are:

  • School health programme
  • Bal Shakha Yojana
  • Chiranjeevi Yojana
  • Emergency Service – 108
  • National Accreditation Board of Hospitals and Trauma Center.

Education

The Kanya Kelavani drive has been successful in achieving practically 100 percent enrolment and reducing gross drop-out rate to almost 3 percent. It is now planned to take up a massive programme of Gunotsav to carry out quality checks on the field. More schemes in this field are:

  • New secondary and Higher secondary schools
  • Education through Satellite
  • Higher Education
  • Saraswati Yojana

Woman & Child Development

Child welfare is a sector which is closely associated with women development. It covers important areas of Human Resources Development. The importance of child welfare programme must be recognised with strong emphasis on health, nutrition, education and basic rights of children. The scheme:

  • Balika Samriddhi Yojana and Anganwadi Building construction

Agriculture

Agriculture has been taken as most important programme so as to improve micro irrigation, water conservation, agricultural extension and strengthening of market linkages in 2009-10. This includes

  • Rain Water Harvesting
  • Innovative strategies – Krishi Mahotsav

Animal Husbandry

To promote the dairy sector, large investments are required to ensure availability of veterinary services at the farmers’ doorsteps which would require large public investment. At present state have 1222 veterinary institutions to cater to the needs of live stock of state. The veterinary services were strengthened with the establishment of 55 dispensaries, 7 polyclinics, 1 disease investigation unit and 15 mobile dispensaries cum disease diagnosis laboratories. It is planned to expand veterinary services in the remote and scattered tribal areas of the State by starting 40 new mobile veterinary dispensaries cum disease diagnosis units. More schemes are:

  • Kamdhenu University
